Eco-friendly car designed by students

Eco-friendly car designed by students

Are you worried about the ever-increasing petrol or diesel cost to enjoy a ride in your four-wheeler? Concerned about the pollution too?. Then, here is a solution for you. A team of engineering students developed a “smart car” which runs on solar power as well as electricity. It is completely pollution-free.
The students are studying fourth-year AE course in the Godavari Institute of Engineering (GIET). Ch Mani Kumar, P Sai Dinesh, A Gowtham, K Pradeep Kumar, S Srikanth, G Balaji, CH Tarun, T Sai Kumar, SSV Bhuvaneswari Devi, CHK Kumar and D Veera Kumar decided to produce a new car as part of their project work and designed a ‘smart car’ with an estimated cost of `90,000, all spent from their own pockets. They started the work in January this year and completed it recently.
They used two Teenz bikes of the TVS Company, two 800 watts capacity engines and four Exide batteries of 12 volts each. The per minute revolution of the motor is 150.
The car runs on batteries that need to be charged for five hours. The car runs at a maximum speed of 50 km per hour.
Two units of power is consumed for charging the batteries. Out of two motors, one motor is used to run the car forward and other backward.
A hassle-free steering, two comfortable seats etc are provided. The car, designed on a square type frame, weighs just 400 kg. The students are planning to run the car on solar power too. The team is also trying to provide self-charging system in the car.
Speaking to TNIE, team leader CH Mani Kumar said Chaitanya Educational Group Chairman Chaitanya Raju, managing director KSK Varma, college principal Dr Ramji and department chief T Jayananda Kumar had encouraged them to design the car.
The car was designed in Vintage model and so far, it has covered 140 km.
The car is convenient for use in companies’ campuses, factories etc. Plans are to put the car on display with other models. Department chief T Jayananda Kumar said the students worked for two- and-a-half months and unveiled the eco-friendly car.
